Welcome to WILBER

New!SAC binary now available

WILBER is an interface that allows you to browse events and request data seamlessly from SPYDER® or FARM archives here at the DMC. Please forward any comments or questions to webmaster@iris.washington.edu.

IMPORTANT NOTE: WILBER is driven by image maps and gifs so you will want to make sure your browser's auto-download graphics option is turned on before you begin.

#1 WINDOW 1

WINDOW 1 is broken up into three frames.
example of event list
Example 1: Event list created by clicking on event map

Events are labeled as FARM or SPYDER® and grouped by color (two listings of the same color means that there are two data sets for the same event). SPYDER® data is NOT quality controlled so this data is kept separate from the quality controlled FARM data. Once we have received all data related to an event and a FARM volume is considered complete, the SPYDER® data is removed. This process can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months from the time of the event.

Clicking on an event in the list will open up a new browser window.

#2 WINDOW 2

Window 2 is broken up into two frames.

station list example
Example 2: station and channel information for chosen event

Top frame options:

  1. You can sort the station list by distance from event or alphabetically.
  2. Click on station link to browse seismograms (appears in bottom frame).
  3. Click on checkboxes to select stations for data request.
  4. Select channel options for data request.
  5. Select time window options
  6. Select output format
  7. Submit request
When you submit your request a new page will appear reporting the progress of your request and from where you will be able to download the resulting data volume(s). It may take several minutes to process your request. The new page will update every 60 seconds and a new message will appear when your request is ready for pickup. If you choose not to wait for the "finished" message or you wish to download your data at a later time, you can download data from ftp://ftp.iris.washington.edu/pub/userdata/your_name*/file_name**. (*the name you used when you started WILBER, **depends on time and type of event) Your volume will be available for 1 week - after 1 week your directory will be purged from our system.

For more specific data requests (ie. more detailed parameters) please use WEED. For more information about available tools for reading SEED volumes please view our Data Access Tutorial or write to webmaster@iris.washington.edu.

Error Reports

WILBER requests are handled by using an ordered queue. If you are experiencing a delay in the fulfillment of your request, it could be for one of two reasons. If the first request in the queue gets "stuck" for any reason, the other requests in the queue are delayed. For this reason we have written a script that will automatically delete any request in the queue that is causing trouble. A user is informed of their deleted request by a README_ERROR file that appears in their user directory. So, if you have been waiting for more than 15 minutes for your request to be fulfilled, check your user directory (listed on your WILBER queue page) for an error file. If there is no error file then your request is still in the queue waiting to be processed and you'll just have to wait a little longer. If you aren't sure about what's going on, write to webmaster@iris.washington.edu for help.

If you try to resubmit a request that has already failed, it will probably fail again. Since we have been monitoring request failures, all failures have been caused by bad SEED volumes - NOT user error. Once a failure is detected, we recreate the SEED volume by hand and check for problems. If you are making a request on a Saturday or Sunday and it fails, please wait until Monday to re-submit your request - we aren't here on the weekends!
