SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SEISMOGRAPHIC NETWORK A Cooperative Project of Caltech and the U.S. Geological Survey July 27, 1995 Weekly Earthquake Report for Southern California ------------------------------------------------ July 20 - 26, 1995 Prepared by: Kate Hutton, Nick Scheckel, Debbie Wells, Seismological Laboratory (kate@bombay.gps.caltech.edu) Lucy Jones, U.S. Geological Survey California Institute of Technology For further information, please contact the authors or the Caltech Public Relations Office at 818-395-6326. For daily updates, call our Earthquake Information Hotline: 818-395-6977. -------------------------------- This week's Report covers the time period from midnight Thursday morning, July 20, Pacific Daylight Time, to midnight Wednesday night, July 26, 1995, Pacific Daylight Time. We recorded 298 earthquakes of during the 7-day period covered. It was even more a dull week than last week, if that's possible. The largest quake was a M3.3 that occurred on Sunday evening in the Coso Range north of Ridgecrest. The Coso area is a common source of small earthquakes. The second largest was a M3.1 very early Saturday morning, near Ocotillo Wells in eastern San Diego County. Because both these quakes occurred in unpopulated areas, they probably were not felt. Two smaller quakes were felt: one (M2.4) on Sunday afternoon in the Fontana area, and the other (M2.5) early Monday morning in the Tehachapi area. The table lists the quakes this week that were M2.0 or larger in the central part of the coverage area. Times are local times; if you want Greenwich Mean Time, add 7 hrs to the Pacific Daylight Time or 8 hrs to the Pacific Standard Time listed. Table 1 ------- Date Time N Lat. W Long.
