16:36 PST, Thursday, December 30

The week's earthquake list, which is again a mixture of automatic and analyst processed hypocenters, totals 293 this week. Click here to see a summary and map .

The summary for the Hector sequence so far: one Mw7.1 (the mainshock), five M5's, 49 M4's, and 311 M3's. The automatic system (ISAIAH) lists 6,121 events total, but, as we mentioned earlier, this is a minimum number.


08:49 PST, Thursday, December 30

A quake was felt in the Inland Empire yesterday evening at 10:24 pm. The epicenter was 2 miles east of Rialto, or 3 miles west of San Bernardino, close to the San Jacinto Fault. The magnitude was M3.3.


16:48 PST, Thursday, December 23

The summary for the Hector sequence so far: one Mw7.1 (the mainshock), five M5's, 49 M4's, and 306 M3's. The automatic system (ISAIAH) lists 5,914 events total, but, as we mentioned earlier, this is a minimum number.


07:18 PST, Thursday, December 23

There was a 4.2 ML event at 06:30:54 AM PST on Dec. 23, 1999. It was located 31 mi. N of Joshua Tree, CA. (34 deg. 35.27 min. N, 116 deg. 15.66 min. W). This was an aftershock of the Hector Mine earthquake (16 OCT 1999, Mw 7.1). No felt reports have been received.


17:41 PST, Thursday, December 16

15:40 PST, Wednesday, December 15

Aside from the continuing Hector aftershocks, the only quakes of public interest in the last few days have been in the San Bernardino Mtns. near Yucaipa. The largest and most widely felt was a M3.9 at 5:20 am on Monday, 5 miles north-northeast of Yucaipa. That quake's largest aftershock, M3.0, occurred yesterday evening at 10:29 pm.


19:06 PST, Thursday, December 09

10:32 PST, Wednesday, December 08

A M3.9 quake was widely felt in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas at 1:58 pm yesterday. The epicenter was in the hills 7 miles southeast of Yorba Linda. There was one report that the quake was felt as far away as Catalina Island. There were a few small aftershocks, the largest of which was M2.1.

Later last night, at 11:35 pm, there was another M3.9, this time a Hector aftershock located 33 miles south-southwest of Baker (or 38 miles east of Barstow). We got not reports of that one being felt.

At 2:31 am this morning, there was a M3.1 located in Loma Linda. We didn't get any inquiries about that one, either.


17:34 PST, Thursday, December 02

The summary for the Hector sequence so far: one Mw7.1 (the mainshock), five M5's, 48 M4's, and 287 M3's. The automatic system (ISAIAH) lists 4,888 events total, but, as we mentioned earlier, this is a minimum number.

Note that some of the feelable (and felt) earthquakes have been outside of the Hector sequence. For instance, at 5:54 pm yesterday afternoon, there was a M3.5 quake east of Obsidian Butte. It was felt in the Imperial Valley.


15:42 PST, Thursday, December 02

Yesterday evening, at 6:19 pm, there was a M3.1 quake 3 miles north-northwest of Fontana. It was felt in the Inland Empire area.
