There were two earthquakes felt in the Hollywood area and southern San Fernando Valley this morning: a M3.3 at 10:27 am and a M3.1 at 10:46 am. The epicenters were 2 miles south-southeast of Sherman Oaks. This puts them in the Hollywood Hills, a bit south of Mulholland, due north of Beverly Hills. (Estimates of both the locations and magnitudes were slightly different earlier today, but the data analysis seems to have settled in on the above info.) They occurred outside, to the southeast, of the Northridge aftershock zone, so they cannot be labelled as aftershocks. Probably the most distinguishing feature of them is that they were felt in many newsrooms and generated substantial media interest, for such small quakes.

Quakes such as these should be considered gentle reminders that we live in earthquake coutry and need to be ready at any time.

The week's earthquake list, which is again a mixture of automatic and analyst processed hypocenters, totals 541 this week. Click here to see a summary and map .

The summary for the Hector sequence so far: one Mw7.1 (the mainshock), five M5's, 48 M4's, and 284 M3's. The automatic system (ISAIAH) lists 4,360 events total, but, as we mentioned earlier, this is a minimum number.

Note that some of the feelable (and felt) earthquakes have been outside of the Hector sequence. For instance, at 5:54 pm yesterday afternoon, there was a M3.5 quake east of Obsidian Butte. It was felt in the Imperial Valley.

The week's earthquake list, which is again a mixture of automatic and analyst processed hypocenters, totals 728 this week. Click here to see a summary and map .

We were able to process about two thirds of the events detected by the automatic system this week. Therefore, the number of events listed is still a minimum figure. The list again is a mixture of automatic epicenters, and results of the analysts' work.

The summary for the Hector sequence so far: one Mw7.1 (the mainshock), five M5's, 46 M4's, and 266 M3's. The automatic system (ISAIAH) lists 3,372 events total, but, as we mentioned earlier, this is a minimum number.

We were able to process about two thirds of the events detected by the automatic system this week. Therefore, the number of events listed is still a minimum figure. The list again is a mixture of automatic (but reviewed and approved) epicenters, and results of the analysts' work.

The summary for the Hector sequence so far: one Mw7.1 (the mainshock), six M5's, 42 M4's, and 245 M3's. The automatic system (ISAIAH) lists 2,747 events total, but, as we mentioned earlier, this is a minimum number.
