WEEKLY EARTHQUAKE REPORTS

The Weekly Earthquake Report consists of a map (e.g. Postscript
file 910509.ps or GIF file 910509.gif) and a commentary (910509.txt
or 910509.html) at a level intended for the press and the public, 
but useful also to scientists and engineers.  It is produced on Thursdays, 
based on the earthquakes that happened between the previous Thursday 
through Wednesday at midnight.  The Report is available through
the SCEDC Web site (http://www.scecdc.scec.org) and the SCEDC anonymous 
ftp directory.
 
The Weekly Report, of course, is the most preliminary.  Much of the
data come from the routine Network processing.  The phases are timed
interactively.  The most common form of error is probably missing events,
when processing of particular earthquakes lags behind for one reason or 
another. The list is checked against the output of a real-time processor 
which automatically times and locates earthquakes with somewhat less 
accuracy, and these data are inserted where needed. 

MONTHLY COMMENTARIES

The monthly Earthquake Commentaries (March 1998 through the present) are 
available as HTML and Postscript files (e.g. October1998.html, October1998.ps).
They include links to the Weekly Earthquake Reports and brief discussions of
any "felt" earthquakes, swarms, and other notable events and trends in
southern California seismicity occurring during the month. For the most
recent commentaries, see the TriNet Earthquake Reports page 
(http://www.trinet.org/eqreports/).

viewable and retrievable via the World Wide Web (WWW) interface.
Using the browser of your choice, go to the SCEDC Seismicity page 
(http://www.scecdc.scec.org/sceq.html).
Under the "Seismicity Reports" heading are links to the current 
TriNet Monthly Commentary, as well as to previous Weekly Reports
(beginning January 1993) and Monthly Commentaries (beginning March 1998).
