The August 20, 1998 M4.4 Wrightwood Earthquake

At 04:49 PM PDT (23:49 GMT) a moderate earthquake (Magnitude 4.4) occurred near Wrightwood.  The location was near the San Andreas fault, which is a large strike-slip fault.  However, seismological data indicated that this earthquake was on a dip-slip fault.

The earthquake was preceded by a small foreshock (M2.2) 13 minutes before the mainshock. There has been 1 recorded aftershock (M1.5) during the two hours following the mainshock.

The event was lightly felt across a wide area of southern California, but there has been no reported damage.
